Will not stay charged.

I have left my knog on to charge overnight and it will not hold a charge. When it works, it’s simple to see and set up, but my knogs will not hold a charge. I bought 2. Having difficulty with both.

Review From a Friend - Knog Brand Scout Travel Bluetooth luggage Tag Review

We were recently given a set of Knog Scout luggage tags, but unfortunately since we are Android people we had to regift our to a friend with an iPhone. Based on his through review we cannot wait until these are available for Android. So without further ado, here is his review:

Summary: reliable, good functionality and App, poor attachment design. Overall 4.5 / 5 Stars

On my very last trip to Alabama, my checked bag got lost for 20 min until I realized that someone else had pulled it off the carousel and piled it amongst their 5 other bags for their family. A product like the Scout luggage tag would have made it easy to immediately locate my bag and avoid the hassle. More importantly, it would have allowed me to alert the person if they took it with them by sounding an alarm. For this reason alone I recommend the product but warn anyone buying one to be patient with assembly.

Unpacking and evaluating the tag itself: the sleekly designed tag is available in muted colors (I got one army green and one black) comes in a recycled paper packaging with some instructions on the package. The user manual is available by booping a QR code on the package. Other items in the package are 2 different length attachment cables, the attachment hub, and a sturdy metal key that also has the device QR code. The tag plastic feels robust and there is a water resistant flap covering the USB-C charging port. A small reset button on the bottom is just recessed enough to shield it from inevitable rubbing during luggage handling. A red LED signals charging, pairing, and can be set to strobe to alert either the user or anyone else. My immediate reaction is that this is a sturdy, reliable device that will stand up to my weekly flight itinerary.

Digital user manual and the App: The manual is well drawn with an IKEA level of user friendliness to get you going in no time setting up the Knog App and pairing is super easy. You can rename the tag, and set parameters such as motion alarm with different sensitivities, chose different alarm tones, vibration on/off, and emergency disarm with or without mobile device. (I chose to allow without). I couldn’t find a way to download additional alarm tones, so that might be a welcome firmware update down the road, although the standard ones are just fine for achieving the task. I tried the alarm on various settings and it is sure to get your attention along with everyone else in the airport!

Manual interface and attachment set up: here is the big opportunity for improvement. Attaching the tag to your luggage is done by unscrewing a plastic “hub” with metal covers on each side. The metal key fob is needed to do this step. Not a big deal if you read the instructions but it is counter intuitive. Once unscrewed, you have to separate the metal covers from the plastic hub halves. This is not detailed in the usermanual and required finagling with a two screwdrivers, a pair of vicegrips and my thumbnail. Once separated, the attachment cable has swages on each end, which must be pushed into notches in the plastic hubs. This step is easy to do, but it’s very sensitive and hard to keep notched. Next, the plastic hubs must be inserted into the tag with each cable end pushed into the swage notch, then the metal covers pushed into place, and screwed down using the metal key.

Sound complicated? Yep, it is! Oh, and I’ll bet 50/50% that you forget to actually thread the cable through your luggage and have to undo and redo half this process. My guess is that this design was motivated by the fear of thieves simply unhooking the Scout tag and absconding with your dirty laundry and chintzy souvenirs. Bravo! However, the attachment cable is about 22 guage diameter and would be easy to snip using a $4 pair of wirecutters. I verified this with the left over (shorter) cable in about 5 seconds. My fix is to put a drop of superglue on each side of the attachment cable in the swage notch. This will, unfortunately, permanently fix what you attach it to, so chose wisely!

The frustration with attachment is not too bad once you get the hang of it, and only needs to be done the one time for setup, and again if you ever want to switch luggage. Overall the utility, reliability and well designed App make this a high value-added product.

So good I promote them!

After several months and numerous flights, including two international trips, I absolutely love these devices. I have 8 of them presently. 1 on my backpack and 1 on my luggage that have made most every one of the 13 trips I have taken since purchasing the Scouts. They have put my mind at ease knowing exactly where my gear is, right down to the lack of Delta, ATL not getting my luggage on to a Montreal flight. Delta couldn’t catch up to my schedule for three days and I knew right where that bag was. Two on 65lbs tool boxes, that get banged around and left in shops. I just activate the alarm and not worry about my gear being messed with. Picture is the first time recharging them since my first trip with them several months ago.
If anything changes, I will be sure to update with my findings, however as of today I will swear by my purchase of these Scouts and keep bragging about them.

New Scouts Gets First Trip Tomorrow

My wife and I are leaving tomorrow to fly out on our first trip with our new Scout tags on our bags. Product quality instructions for set up and installation were excellent. Recently retired. We are doing a lot of traveling and having the scout will be a major upgrade to our experience. The integration with Apple Find Me, robust and colorful design with tamper resistant tether make Scout a great choice.

Keeps the Airlines Honest

One of our bags got lost on an international trip. Communication with the local airline representatives was difficult. The Knog Scout allowed us to know exactly where the bag was and get it back because we could share the bag's location details with the airline and get them to respond more accurately. It was a life saver for us.

Purchase regret

Not easy to set up and use. I purchased 4. Husband is the tech-guru so let him set it up. When we were getting ready to travel. They kept going off on their own. Setting off alarms on the phone with DISARM in red flashing on phone. We hadn’t even left home yet. The thought of being at airport and one of these going off on their own with a big red disarm button on our phone wasn’t something we wanted to chance. We we took them out of each of our bags and deleted the apps from all our phones. They looked cool. Wish I hadn’t purchased

Never arrived

Impossible to review since I never received. Even after 3 weeks and writing to complain

They do sometimes lose connection while traveling and dont reconnect until youre back near the bag which sort of defeats the point but when they work they are very helpful. And the siren is loud so if you lose it ose by thats helpful.

Too user unfriendly set up

Spent days trying to charge, connect, eventually nothing works with all the trouble shooting. No customer care to call. Exhausted and gave up. Wan5 to return, will rather use something simple to activate and reliable

So far so good

Set up not overly difficult but could use better instructions. Especially around why setting alarm is/not important.

Easy peace of mind while travelling

I have a Knog alarm on my bike and it’s been a great way to keep track of my wheels while they’re out of sight around the corner.

So when I was planning a trip and found out Knog had Luggage tag alarms too I bought one right off and it’s been a pleasure to use. Any time I’ve had to keep the luggage in a rack I’ve been easily able to keep track of my bag.

I think the ease of use the Knog products have make them exceptionally useful and the integration with the phone make me confident that no one can compromise the tag without me knowing about it

Nice, functional product

Got a couple to use during a road trip in Europe, where we left the suitcases in a parked car while we toured ln foot. The alarm is a nice feature: it may not deter theft but, at least, it will be a public nuisance! I wish it was louder. Being able to track the suitcase on the smart phone was invaluable to find the car, an unexpected benefit.

An easy, durable and smart solution.

I now have five installed on our travel suitcases. They appear very durable, already survived the AMS airport. Setup is pretty easy, read the instructions closely as some changes need to be done while plugged into power, but otherwise a simple solution.

Rugged, Reliable, and Rechargeable – A Must-Have Travel Companion

The Knog Scout Travel is an absolute win for frequent travellers. I love how tough and durable it feels — clearly built to handle life on the road. The fact that it’s rechargeable via a standard USB-C cable is a huge bonus, eliminating the need for proprietary chargers. Simple, smart, and solid.

They are great. Work as I wanted and I like the various options you can build in for contact. I have one on my bike and it is interesting to see the different sydtem on the travel tag. The two diiferent ways the tag can be scanned keeos up eoth modetn technology. It took a bit of fiddling to work out hiw to install but then it was easier for the second one. Good to be sble to put all the tags on the one app.
