FAQs - Road Cycling
What are the must-have accessories for road cycling?
When you're slicing through city traffic or clocking kilometres on open roads, the right gear doesn’t just enhance your ride—it protects it.
Every road cyclist should be equipped with three essentials:
- Front Rear Bike Lights – To see and be seen in all conditions
- A Reliable Bike Bell – For safe and courteous communication on shared roads
- A Helmet – Always, no exceptions
At Knog, we’ve dialled in bike lights that are bright, sleek, and USB rechargeable—built to ensure you’re visible from dawn rides to twilight sprints. Our rear lights often feature wide-angle or 330° visibility (like the Cobber range), while our front lights deliver beam patterns tailored for high-speed riding.
Pair that with the Oi Bell—a minimalist ring of sound that looks like it belongs on your handlebars—and you’re set to ride smarter, safer, and more stylishly.

Whether you’re commuting, racing, or training, Knog’s road cycling accessories are engineered for safety, comfort, and confidence—without compromising on design.
Do you need lights for road cycling during the day?
100%. Daytime riding doesn’t mean you’re always seen. In fact, a flashing daytime bike light is one of the best things you can use to stay visible in traffic. Cars, trucks, distracted drivers—your best defence is being noticed from a distance. A bright rear light with a daytime flash mode cuts through the visual noise and gives you a better shot at being seen before it's too late.
Knog’s road cycling lights are purpose-built for this. Lightweight, USB rechargeable, and designed to run flash modes for hours, even in full sun ensuring that you can be seen.
What's the best rear light for road riding?
It’s all about visibility without bulk. The Blinder Bike Light Range stands out because they throw out serious lumens (up to 1300 Lumens with the Blinder 1300 Front Bike Light and up to 100+ on the rear with the Blinder Link Rear Bike Light), have wide-angle beams with side visibility and they clip on clean—no tools, no bounce, no fuss.
They're also designed to be aero-friendly and light enough not to weigh down your carbon frame or saddle bag setup. In short: they’re bright, built tough, and made to keep you seen without slowing you down.
How many lumens do you need for night road cycling?
It depends on where you're riding - for night riding on lit roads, you’ll want a front bike light with at least 200–500 lumens to properly light your path and help you spot potholes, debris, or rogue possums. If you're riding at higher speeds or on darker, unlit roads, go 600 lumens or more.
For the rear, 50–100 lumens is plenty—especially with a solid flash pattern. Bonus points if your light has side visibility (like Knog’s Cobber range), which helps at intersections and on tight urban corners.
Are there lights that can attach to helmets or clothing?
Absolutely—and they’re game changers especially in traffic. Knog lights like the Blinder Mini or Plus Wearables are designed to clip onto helmets, backpacks, seat bags, or even your jersey. Super light, super sleek, and super useful when you want extra visibility without bulking up your bike.
They’re ideal for commuters, group rides, or anyone who wants 360° visibility with minimal weight. Add them to your setup and make sure you’re seen from every angle, every ride.
