Necessary Bike Security

I purchased the Knog bike alarm/tracker because it adds a bit more active level of security to my bike security set up. I don’t ever plan to leave this particular bike unattended. But if I ever have to leave it for a short period I will feel an added sense of relief knowing that if anyone messes with it, the alarm with act as a deterrent. And, if it gets stolen hopefully I’ll have a chance of getting it back. I use KNOG along with a Diamond level U-Lock, and LiteLok zip lock for the front wheel.

Helps with peace of mind.

Thinking of purchasing another one for my other bike as well.

I’d recommend it.

Could be great bought 2 and regret it

Very enthusiastic about this device and one is totally disconnect and blocked and the support keep reply the same email without any solution and the other one start the alarm while I was nearby in my garage and the app didn’t allow me to disarmed it and now it’s done as “lost” and can’t do nothing right now…. As I say I’m enthusiastic about this device but clearly sad about the app and the difficulties in solving small normal problems and the support is hilarious

Excellent concept, but could be improved in execution

This is a great concept. As a Brompton owner, even with its convenient folding mechanism that allows me to bring it almost anywhere, there are situations where I need to be away from my bicycle for a very brief duration, say, when browsing a small shop. And locking up the bike will take far too long.

This is where the Scout comes in.

I just leave my bicycle in a nearby corner, activate the alarm, and carry on with business nearby. It gives me a peace of mind when I'm performing daily errands.

If I need to be away for longer periods for say, a nearby gym session, I can use both alarm and lock together, acting as an effective deterrence to all but the most determined thieves. Most gyms in my areas don't allow bicycles indoors.

What this alarms enables me to do with my folding bicycle, it's plenty. The Brompton allows me to carry the bicycle almost anywhere, while this alarm allows me to leave the Brompton nearby while I carry on with daily life without worry. it's a killer combo.

But there are also several shortcomings.
1) The Brompton does not come with a bottle mount. so I needed to purchase an adapter to hold the alarm, and even with the adapter and spacers, the anti-tamper screws are still too long. I had to use my own screws instead. Would be nice if there is a better way to mount to my Brompton.

2) Clunky app UI.

I hope to see a solution that caters to Bromptons!

Discreet Peace of Mind

The Scout Bike Alarm and associated Knog app are easy to set up and use. Once connected and registered, the Scout can be armed and disarmed from the Knog app. The location of the Scout can be tracked via the Apple Find My app.

I prefer the stealth mounting option under a bottle cage mount. There is an overt mounting option where the presence of the Scout is advertised by a Hi-Viz cover.

When the Scout is armed, an audible alarm sounds and an alert flashes on my mobile.

The combination of ease of use and the 85dB motion-sensitive alarm gives me peace of mind during café stops and when my bike is in storage.

I highly recommend the Scout Bike Alarm.

BEST BIKE TRACKER EVER!!!

Today I was at the gym and two little scrotes cut thru both my thick metal chain locks with an angle grinder and stole my £2000 electric bike. I came out and realised my bike was gone and instantly went onto find my iPhone to see that the bike was moving approximately 1 mile from the gym. When the bike stopped moving it was just over a mile away at an address and had been pinging constantly on find my iPhone. I then went to the address and was able to locate my bike within 40 minutes of realising it had been stolen. The tracker has saved me over £2000 in expenses and I would HIGHLY Recommend anyone considering to purchase this bike lock as a theft deterrent. As the police were not interested in locating or going to the place themselves.

If it had not been for the great craftsmanship of the team at Knog I would be at a big loss. I greatly thank you guys for making the best anti theft device and wish great blessings upon your entire design team for doing a great job!!!

Great Customer Service

Had an issue with Knog Scout Bike alarm & finder which refused to work after many months of good use. Contacted Knog supprot who provided various things to try. After they all failed, Knog honoured the warranty (despite being slightly past the date) and sent a free replacement.
Very impressed with their prompt and fantastic service and support.

Product so good that it's it's own enemy

I have been using the Knog alarm for about 2 years now. Purchased after I got a nice commuter bike to keep it safe. Like the title says, its main flaw lies in it's own brilliance -> movement sensitivity. Unfortunately the alarm is unusable in crowded areas with lots of bikes as it's simple too sensitive. Any small rock and movement to your bike will set it off -> even when you set the motion sensitivity to 1 (low). Actually I am not sure if motion sensitivity 1 is low and 5 is high or vice versa.
Main issue is that it has a buffer on how many times it can get rocked before it sets off the alarm. It seems like it remembers all the movement and then the motion sensitivity setting is just a number of how many times does it detect motion before it starts beeping. Useful feature would be to allow it to "forget" a movement after say 5-10 seconds. This would allow the alarm to be more movement-tolerable in crowded areas where your bike (an thus the alarm) will get exposed to lots of micro movements.

App could use a few improvements:
- sometimes it doesn't allow me to enter the alarm settings and I have to restart it
- alarm sound preview would be nice so I don't have to trigger it each time to hear each alarm sound (there is approx 30-40 of them)
- better UX/UI for movement sensitivity -> is 1 low or is 1 high? Same for 5 -> is that highest sensitivity or highest tolerance
- allow adding of multiple alarms in case I have more then one bike I want to protect

Sleek, easy to setup, and definitely some peace of mind!

The scout fits pretty seamlessly under my pre-existing bottle cage and blends right in to my black frame. Gives me a bit of peace of mind when locking up around the city.

Tracking works great

Fits easily under bottle cage, tracking works well, alarm is loud and works well (although I just leave the alarm feature off mostly).

Thief mess with the wrong bike

On new year eve early morning I was at a friend house and I lock my bike with a wire lock ( frame and wheel) and at some point my friend shout at me “ Zack your bike is gone” although by mistake I had the sensitivity at a low level, I was not panic so I went to look for it with the help of my scout.. long story short I follow the gps saw my bike in someone yard and I called the police and after a while I got my bike back .. the police asked me to alarm and disarm my bike through my phone so they can see that is a tual mine ( they need proof to get your possessions from anywhere) . Am lucky rhat I **** my scout a couple of weeks before the incident..ill say one thing, if you don’t have one .. then am sorry for you . Thank you knog

I GOT MY BIKE BACK!!!!

Not just any bike. My dream bike with all of the trimmings!!! Bike was stolen from a locked garage along with 3 other bikes. I had AirTags in three bikes and a Scout on the newest bike. Thieves ditched the wedge bags with AirTags but didn’t realize the other bike with the Scout. Police involved and I got 2 of my road bikes backs after it moved from a random garage to a pawn shop. I had serial number and photos when we arrived at the pawn shop but the best is when I paired the alarm as a third layer of proof. $60 investment saved me THOUSANDS!!!!!

Have to recharge after one day

My Scout runs out of battery after one day. The green light can not be turned of so it looses it’s battery after one day. My Scout is one year old.

REALLY SOMETHING!!!

I would say it needs more sound options possibly a custom sound option, longer battery life, & farther reach with service capability to arm & disarm.
Overall a great device 100% satisfied and has already helped me find my bike once when it was taken. Super light and very hidden. Picked my Knog Scout up at Mojo Cycling in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Really dig the new app icon too guys!
I’m definitely a fan of Knog products now.

Great!

I bought the Kong Scout to protect my new bike and ensure it's trackable in the event it is stolen. I've seen a lot of other reviews where people seem to not understand what the product is.

It is NOT:

- A device with in-built GPS tracking
- An alarm that you can monitor anywhere
- An internet connected device

It IS:

- An alarm that connects to your phone when in Bluetooth eange
- A tracker that relies on the Apple Find My Network
- An amazing bit of kit.

This relies on nearby iPhones and iPads to ping off it in the event of a theft. With a large number of iPhones out there, this means your bike could theoretically be tracked very easily. The Bluetooth range to monitor the alarm is very short, but that's the nature of Bluetooth. It does exactly what it says on the tin, and I love it.

I bought it from 99 Bikes because it was significantly cheaper there in AU - but would highly recommend. Hid it under my bottle holder.

Stolen and found!

My bicycle was stolen this week, my lock cut, from outside my office where I park all day everyday. Thankfully, I had the foresight to install the Knog Scout when I bought this new bike two months ago. Within the hour of discovering my bike had been lifted, I found the bicycle at a thrift store many miles away and recovered it. I was able to call the shop and have them wheel it inside and scare off the thief. The Scout kept me from replacing a $1,500 bike. Now when I park, I arm the alarm!

Scout is a Trooper

I installed and tested my Scout alarm yesterday. I ran through the 8 different alarm tones and played with the sensitivity settings. I can attest that this thing is awesome! The sounds are piercingly loud and the alarm goes off with even the slightest bit of movement. So, forget about someone having the ability to remove this thing before it goes off - first of all, they wouldn't have the right tool - second of all, even if they miraculously did have the obscurely-shaped tool, it would still take a good 30 seconds of fiddling with it, which would attract a lot of public scrutiny.

More software work needed

Pros
- fits standard bottle cage mounts
- phone or physical arming
Cons
- doesn’t work for shared bikes (ie family cargo bikes) as it can only connect to one phone so I have to leave it unarmed most nights
- constant alerts of connection/disconnection so have to disable all alerts

Raised boss mount

If you have raised bosses, you can flip the Scout, then mount over the back. Keeps the unit from being so far out and noticeable.
